Eric J. Poulsen, MD is a board-certified ophthalmologist and is one of the leading LASIK surgeons in Fresno and the San Joaquin Valley.
Laser vision correction could eliminate the need for glasses or contacts by correcting the shape of your eye to provide proper focus. LASIK surgery is tailored to each individual and is considered one of the safest procedures when preformed by an experienced LASIK surgeon like Dr. Poulsen at InSight Vision Center. Most people achieve results between 20/20 and 20/40 vision without the use of glasses or contact lenses.
How does LASIK work?
- The LASIK procedure is performed in a specially equipped, outpatient surgical suite while you relax in a reclining chair.
- A few anesthetic drops are applied, and an eyelid holder is placed to prevent blinking.
- A thin flap of cornea is elevated, exposing the inner layers of the cornea.
- The excimer laser is programmed precisely according to your eye problem, using wavefront technology when possible, and the laser sculpts the cornea to the correct shape.
- The flap is sealed back into place and the whole process is complete within minutes.

If you think you are not a candidate for LASIK, you might be a candidate for an ICL implantable lens procedure that can possibly free you from prescription glasses.
